Any permit issued under the provisions of this division shall expire June 30 of each
year, unless revoked sooner for cause, and such permit shall continue only upon condition
that the party receiving the same shall, as a consideration for such use and privilege,
maintain and keep in repair all doors and coverings over the openings in the public
sidewalks and all vaults or structures below the public sidewalks, and shall pay all
damages that may be sustained by reason of the same being defective or in a dangerous
condition.
