§ 2-335. Disposition of unclaimed property.
If any article is not claimed and charges paid within three months from the date the city first acquired custody, the purchasing agent may proceed to sell the same upon the same provisions as are applicable to notice and procedure for execution sales in a court of competent jurisdiction. If no bids are received for the purchase of any property, it shall be conclusively presumed that such property is of no value and it shall be destroyed or otherwise disposed of. The proceeds of such sale shall be applied as provided by law. The first of such proceeds shall be used to reimburse the city for the expenses of such sale and charges for storage and other services rendered by the city and the excess, if any, shall be paid to the owner or person entitled to possession, upon proof thereof, and in the absence of such proof, such excess shall be credited to the general fund of the city.
