§ 106-436. Use of fire hydrants.

Latest version.
  • (a)

It shall be unlawful for any person other than properly authorized employees of the water, fire and public works departments to operate fire hydrants and hose outlets unless proper arrangements have been made with the water department for payment for such water and permission has been granted by the superintendent on an approved form.

    (b)

Persons desiring water service from a fire hydrant shall make application therefor to the water department and make a deposit in the sum of $100.00 with the city treasurer to protect the water department against possible damage to the hydrant or appurtenant equipment. Permission will not be granted or continued when temperatures drop below 32 degrees Fahrenheit.

    (c)

When it is deemed necessary, the water department will furnish an inspector to operate a fire hydrant or hose connection to avoid damage and to obtain the necessary information for computing the volume of water consumed. Water supplied, together with the expense for the service of the inspector and equipment furnished, is classified as special service. In no case shall the charge be less than $5.00.
